Dear Parents of Year 1 Students,
RE: Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease
We have been notified by a parent that their child in Year 1 has “Hand, Foot and Mouth disease” today. As this is a notifiable communicable disease we are informing all parents in this year level. We would like to request that you read the following information provided by the Department of Health, in order to prevent your child from becoming infected.
What is Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease?
Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is a viral infection. The incubation period is usually around 3 to 7 days.
Mode of Transmission
The disease mainly spreads by contact with an infected person’s nose or throat discharges, saliva, fluid from vesicles or stool, or after touching contaminated objects. The disease is most contagious during the first week of the illness and the viruses can be found in stool for weeks.
Symptoms
The disease is mostly self-limiting and resolves in 7 - 10 days. It usually begins with fever, poor appetite, tiredness and sore throat. One to two days after fever onset, painful sores may develop in the mouth. They begin as small red spots with blisters and then often become ulcers. They usually appear on the tongue, gum and inside of the cheeks. There may also be a skin rash that is non-itchy and sometimes accompanied by blisters. The rash usually appears on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet and may also appear on the buttocks and/or genitalia. A person with HFMD may not have symptoms, or may only have rash or mouth ulcers.
Management
There is no specific drug treatment for HFMD. Stay hydrated and take adequate rest, and patients may receive symptomatic treatment to reduce fever and pain from oral ulcers. Sick children should stay away from school or gatherings till all vesicles have dried up and are cleared by a doctor before returning to school to avoid spreading the disease. The patient is advised to stay at home until fully recovered, i.e. fever and rash have subsided, and vesicles have dried and crusted.Parents should monitor the child’s condition closely and seek medical advice immediately if there is persistent high fever, decrease in alertness or deterioration in general condition.
Preventive Measures:-
1. Maintain good air circulation.
2. Good hands wash with soap before meals and after going to the toilet, or other stool soiled material.
3. Avoid close contact (such as kissing, hugging) with infected persons.
4. Cover the nose and mouth with tissue paper when sneezing or coughing. Dispose of soiled tissue paper into a lidded rubbish bin, then wash hands thoroughly.
5. Regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as furniture, toys and commonly shared items with 1:99 diluted household bleach and disposable towel, leave for 15 - 30 minutes, and then rinse with water and keep dry. For metallic surface, disinfect with 70% alcohol.
6. Inform our School Office with the diagnosis and refrain from attending class at school until their fever and rash have subsided and all the vesicles have dried and crusted.
7. Avoid going to overcrowded places or gathering when sick.
8. Use serving chopsticks and spoons at meal time. Do not share food and drinks with others.
Strict personal hygiene is of utmost importance in preventing Hand, Foot and Mouth disease.
The concerned area in our school will be disinfected and the related bus company is informed.

Dear Parents,
I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to provide some information regarding the upcoming Year 5 residential camp at Treasure Island next week.
We have received inquiries from parents about what would happen if the inclement weather was to impact the camp.
I want to assure you that the Treasure Island camp management team closely monitors the weather and conducts a thorough risk assessment for each activity throughout the 3-day camp.
If the weather is deemed unsuitable for a particular activity, the team will adjust the activity or replace it with a different one. In the unlikely event that the weather deteriorates during the camp, the team will continue to monitor the situation and, if necessary, bring the students back to school.
In the more unlikely scenario that the camp needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather prior to the students' departure, the camp dates will be rearranged.
As of now, the weather forecast for next week looks favorable, and we are confident that the weather should not be an issue.
As always, please rest assured that the safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Kind Regards,
Mr Gavin MacGregor
Principal
Dear Families,
The KJS PTA are delighted to invite you to join a fun evening of spooks and treats, music, dancing and costumes, snacks and drinks and a whole area of fun activities where the children can show off their creativity with art and take them home. Don’t miss this chance to come dressed to impress !!! There will be prizes for best dressed and best dancers :)
Tickets
You can still buy tickets! Click here.
The cost is $60 per person - it covers entrance fee, all activities and prizes. We would like to remind you that this event is for KJS families only please.
At the event you only pay for food & drinks (if you wish to buy), prepare your octopuses.
Volunteers
Thank you to those who signed up to make this event possible, we appreciate it! We are able to do all activities planned and accommodate more families!
When you arrive on the day - please look for a VIP sign (Volunteers - Important People!), at the special VIP table at the entrance at the right side where we check you in, give you a special lanyard, give 2 free drink coupons and say thank you again!
One Child, One Plate
There will be a Halloween Themed table of Treats - we encourage you to donate food items to the event - it can be anything you make or buy (no nuts please!!!). It can be sweet, savoury, any cuisine or item. We would really appreciate it!!!
We have 900 students here at KJS and even if 10% of parents donate a single plate of food, it can help support the school. So far, we only have 9 donations for food…so please, please spread the word amongst your friends to bring “a plate”.
Bring Your Own Utensils
As part of our sustainability drive and to fit with the school ethos, we ask all families to bring your own eating utensils like bowls, plates, cutlery and water bottles. This will help reduce the waste produced and also the number of single use items, all of which add to our landfills. The food providers will also not be providing utensils, so please bring your own!
Cashless / Octopus Payments
We are aiming to go cashless at our events and will be using Octopus payment methods. Please make sure you have your card or App with you on that day. All activities are included in the ticket price, only food and drinks will require payments.
Students after school on site
There have been some queries if students can stay on site for the time after school ends at 2:45 until the event begins at 4:30. School health and safety procedures require students to leave the campus and return for the event. They may stay under the supervision of a caregiver or parent outside the main gates if they wish.
Thank you to all the Community,
We are looking forward to a fun evening of thrill and dance!
With love & care,
The KJS PTA Team
Dear Parents,
Year 1 students have had the DTaP-IPV Immunisation today. We are so happy to see they were so brave. Advice to Parents is given to those students who received the vaccination. You can find it inside the immunisation record.
As the immunisation record is an important document, our teachers will return it via the communication bag. Please kindly check your child's communication bag for it tonight.
For parents who consented but whose child is absent today, the CHP School Immunisation Team has issued a referral letter for appointment arrangements to have the vaccination in their Centers later. The letter will be given to you with the immunisation record when your child returns to school.
Feel free to contact me for any questions.

Dear Parents,
Combined Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis (reduced dose) & Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (dTap-IPV) for Year 6 students.
Information concerning the combined dTap-IPV immunisation issued by the Director of Health will be sent home with your child today. Please read it carefully. The dTap-IPV immunisation (booster dose) is advised for all Y6 students unless a student has received this booster(s) at or after 10 years of age. As per CHP, it is safe for the Seasonal Influenza Vaccine and dTap-IPV to be given at the same time.
* If you are unsure if this immunisation is required but you are happy for it to go ahead, my advice is to consent and send your immunisation book in. The CHP team checks all records before administering and would only give if needed. *
A vaccination team from the Department of Health will visit KJS to administer the vaccination to eligible Year 6 students on Monday 11th November 2024.
Please read the consent form very carefully and complete all the sections by ticking (✓) and signing as appropriate. If you do not consent, you will need to complete the Refusal Form and return the form to us.
The vaccination team will also require your child’s ORIGINAL immunisation records. If your child’s records are in a language other than Cantonese or English, please translate the vaccines already taken.
Forms and original immunisation records should be returned to the school together by Thursday 28th October 2024.

Dear Year 6 Parents,
This is to inform you that there is one reported case of Scarlet Fever in Year 6 today, i.e. 30th September 2024.
As Scarlet Fever is a communicable disease, we would like you to read the following information provided by the Centre for Health Protection, in order to prevent your child from becoming infected.
Causative agent
Scarlet fever is a bacterial infection caused by Group A Streptococcus. It mostly affects children.
Clinical features
It usually starts with a fever and sore throat. Headache, vomiting and abdominal pain may also occur. The tongue may have a distinctive "strawberry"-like (red and bumpy) appearance. A "sandpaper" texture-like rash would commonly begin on the first or second day of illness over the upper trunk and neck, which spreads to the limbs. The rash is usually more prominent in armpits, elbows and groin areas. It usually subsides after one week and is followed by skin peeling over fingertips, toes and groin areas.
Scarlet fever is sometimes complicated with middle ear infection, throat abscess, chest infection, meningitis, bone or joint problems, damage to kidneys, liver and heart, and rarely toxic shock syndrome.
Mode of transmission
The bacteria are present in the mouth, throat and nose of the infected person. They are transmitted through either respiratory droplets or direct contact with infected respiratory secretions.
Incubation period
The incubation period is usually 1 to 3 days.
Management
Scarlet fever can be effectively treated with antibiotics. If symptoms of scarlet fever develop, consult the doctor promptly and take antibiotics according to doctor’s advice. Symptoms may be relieved by parallel use of fever-lowering drugs, more rest and replenishment of fluids.
Prevention
There is no vaccine available against scarlet fever. Members of public are advised to reduce their chance of getting infection by adopting the following measures:
Perform hand hygiene frequently, especially before touching the mouth, nose or eyes; after touching public installations such as handrails or door knobs; or when hands are contaminated by respiratory secretion after coughing or sneezing.
Wash hands with liquid soap and water, and rub for at least 20 seconds. Then rinse with water and dry with a disposable paper towel or hand dryer. If hand washing facilities are not available, or when hands are not visibly soiled, hand hygiene with 70 to 80% alcohol-based handrub is an effective alternative.
Cover your mouth and nose with tissue paper when sneezing or coughing. Dispose of soiled tissues into a lidded rubbish bin, then wash hands thoroughly.
Avoid sharing personal items e.g. eating utensils and towels.
When having respiratory symptoms, wear a surgical mask, refrain from work or attending class at school, avoid going to crowded places and seek medical advice promptly.
Children suffering from scarlet fever should refrain from attending school or child care setting until fever has subsided and they have been treated with antibiotics for at least 24 hours.
Regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as furniture, toys and commonly shared items with 1:99 diluted household bleach (mixing 1 part of 5.25% bleach with 99 parts of water), leave for 15-30 minutes, and then rinse with water and keep dry. For metallic surface, disinfect with 70% alcohol.
Use absorbent disposable towels to wipe away obvious contaminants such as respiratory secretions, and then disinfect the surface and neighbouring areas with 1:49 diluted household bleach (mixing 1 part of 5.25% bleach with 49 parts of water), leave for 15-30 minutes and then rinse with water and keep dry. For metallic surfaces, disinfect with 70% alcohol.
Maintain good indoor ventilation. Avoid going to crowded or poorly ventilated public places; high-risk individuals may consider putting on surgical masks while in such places.
The concerned area in our school has been disinfected.
Should you have any queries in regard to this email, please contact nurse@kjs.hk.

Dear Year 1 Families,
We hope this message finds you well! We are excited to invite you to a special workshop dedicated to our phonics program, Get Reading Right, at Kowloon Junior School. This workshop is designed to provide you with an understanding of how we teach phonics and reading to your children and to equip you with practical tools and strategies to support their learning at home.
Workshop Details:
Date: Thursday, September 26th
Time: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: Library (1st floor)
This interactive session will include an overview of our phonics program followed by hands-on activities where you can engage with the games and resources used in our curriculum. These materials are specially designed to complement the learning done in class and will be a valuable addition to your at-home educational activities.

We recommend that the attending adult be the one who will primarily assist the child with reading at home. Please do not bring your children along to this workshop. It is for caregivers only.
We are looking forward to an engaging and informative afternoon with you and are excited to support you in playing a proactive role in your child’s reading journey!

Dear Year 6 Parents,
This is to inform you that there is one reported case of Scarlet Fever in Year 6 today, i.e. 16th September 2024.

Diwali is a special time of celebration for many of our KJS community members. We would like to put together a Diwali assembly to celebrate and showcase the spirit and significance of Diwali. The assembly will include performances in different categories and we are now inviting students from across KJS to submit videos if they wish to perform and participate in this year’s Diwali assembly.
If you are interested in being a part of the Diwali assembly please submit a video to Ms. Gupta (aarti.gupta@kjs.hk, dawn.doucette@kjs.hk) and Mrs. Doucette before Friday, October 2nd. We are seeking a variety of performances and a variety of performers, from our youngest to our oldest, so if we receive too many performance offerings we will do a quick audition to make final selections.
The video should be no longer than 3 minutes.
The criteria for the performances are as follows:
Classical Dance:
Performers will present traditional classical dance forms, such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, etc.
The performance should reflect the essence of Diwali and its cultural significance.
Drama/Skit:
Participants will enact a short play or skit related to Diwali.
The performance should convey a meaningful message or highlight the values associated with Diwali.
Story of Diwali:
Participants will narrate or present a short storytelling session about the significance and history of Diwali.
The performance should engage the audience and provide insights into the festival.
Yoga:
Performers will demonstrate yoga postures or sequences inspired by Diwali.
The performance should promote physical and mental well-being, incorporating elements related to Diwali.
Bollywood Dance:
Participants will perform energetic and vibrant Bollywood-style dance routines.
The performance should showcase the festive spirit through choreography.
Folk Music or Dance:
Performers will showcase traditional folk music or dance forms associated with Diwali from different regions.
The performance should celebrate the cultural diversity and richness of Diwali.
Poems on Diwali:
Participants will recite original or well-known poems dedicated to Diwali.
The poems should capture the essence of Diwali, its traditions, and the joyous atmosphere.
General Guidelines:
Each performance should not exceed 3 minutes to ensure a smooth flow of the assembly.
Performances should be rehearsed and well-prepared to ensure a high-quality showcase.
Songs chosen for the performances should be either about Diwali or have a festive nature and it is imperative that they do not contain any inappropriate language.
By following these criteria, we aim to create an engaging and culturally rich Diwali assembly that celebrates the festival while maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment for all participants and audience members.
We look forward to watching your videos!
Warm Regards,
Ms Gupta and Mrs Doucette

Combined Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis & Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (DTaP-IPV) for Year 1 students
Information concerning the combined DTaP-IPV immunisation issued by the Department of Health will be sent home with your child today or this Friday (for 1EM). Please read it carefully. The DTaP-IPV immunisation (booster dose) is advised for all Y1 students unless a student has received this booster(s) at or after 4 years of age.
* If you are unsure if this immunsation is required but you are happy for it to go ahead, my advice is to consent and send your immunisation book in. The CHP team will check all records before administering and would only give if needed. *
A vaccination team from the Department of Health will visit KJS to administer the vaccination to eligible Year 1 students on Tuesday 22nd October 2024.

Dear KJS Families
We hope this letter finds you and your families well.
As you will know, the Hong Kong government lifted the mandatory mask-wearing requirements in March 2023. Since then, we have observed that sickness and absence levels at our school have returned to pre-pandemic levels, which is a positive sign.
However, we recognise that the habitual use of masks has become a part of many students' daily routines over the past few years. While this practice was necessary during the height of the pandemic, recent research suggests that the continuous use of masks can have a negative impact on students' language development and social-emotional well-being.
The attached ‘Overview of Mask Wearing in Schools’ from Hong Kong’s Central Health Child Development team outlines some of the potential impacts of long-term face mask wearing on child development.
Given these risks, we would like to encourage all of our students to gradually transition away from the continuous use of masks in the school setting. We understand that this may be a significant change for some children who have become accustomed to wearing masks regularly. Therefore, we are sharing this information with you now, and encourage families to take the time to have conversations and reassure students about the safety of coming to school without a mask.
Starting after the October mid-term break, we would like to encourage all students to attend school without a mask, unless your child has underlying medical conditions that we should be made aware of. Students who are experiencing symptoms of illness should stay at home and rest. We believe that this approach will not only support the overall well-being of our students but also foster a more positive and engaging learning environment.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Best regards,
Gavin MacGregor

Dear Year 1 Families,
We hope this message finds you well! We are excited to invite you to a special workshop dedicated to our phonics program, Get Reading Right, at Kowloon Junior School. This workshop is designed to provide you with an understanding of how we teach phonics and reading to your children and to equip you with practical tools and strategies to support their learning at home.
Workshop Details:
Date: Tuesday, September 26th
Time: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: School Hall
This interactive session will include an overview of our phonics program followed by hands-on activities where you can engage with the games and resources used in our curriculum. These materials are specially designed to complement the learning done in class and will be a valuable addition to your at-home educational activities.
We kindly ask that each family be represented by one parent or guardian to ensure we can accommodate everyone comfortably. We recommend that the attending adult be the one who will primarily assist the child with reading at home. Please do not bring your children along to this workshop. It is for caregivers only.
We are looking forward to an engaging and informative afternoon with you and are excited to support you in playing a proactive role in your child's reading journey!
Warm regards,
The Year 1 Team
Dear KJS families,
Please kindly be reminded that we have students who have a severe nut allergy. Exposure to nut products, including peanut butter and Nutella, for these children can trigger an anaphylactic reaction - a severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction that requires immediate medical attention.
In order to keep the children safe, parents are asked to be mindful of this and not to send in any sort of food for sharing with others. Nuts and nut products should not be brought to school or included in lunches or snacks for all students. As students sit in the same room to eat their lunch this is particularly important. Your support in this area is very much appreciated.
The safety and wellbeing of all children in our care is our priority.
Thank you so much for your ongoing cooperation and vigilance in ensuring a safe environment for all our students.

Dear KJS families,
Following our earlier communication regarding the potential T8 signal, we have made the decision to cancel all Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) scheduled for this afternoon.
Regular dismissal times remain unchanged. Please ensure you have arrangements in place for your child's pickup or travel home at the end of the normal school day.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. As always, the safety of our students is our primary concern.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this update.
Kind Regards,

Dear KJS families,
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) has indicated a possibility of raising the T8 signal between 4pm and 7pm this evening. We want to assure you that as it stands, this will have no impact on our regular learning schedule or end-of-day procedures. Students will attend classes and be dismissed at the usual time.
One aspect we are currently considering is the status of our after-school Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs). We will be closely monitoring the situation and will make a decision regarding ECAs by lunchtime. You can expect to receive a notification about this decision no later than 1pm today. However, if the HKO provides a more specific timeframe for the potential T8 signal, we may communicate our decision earlier.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we navigate this weather situation. Rest assured that the safety of our students is our top priority, and we will keep you informed of any changes or updates as soon as they become available.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Wednesday 4th September
Inclement Weather Procedures
Dear KJS families,
With the possibility of Typhoon signals being raised this week, parents are advised to stay informed via the ESF App and note the following inclement weather arrangements, which apply in all cases.
In case of T8 (or above) or a Red/Black rain signal is hoisted before the school starts:
Once EDB decides to close schools due to the inclement weather, the school will message parents via the ESF App and SMS. A banner will also be posted on our website.
Parents are advised to keep their children at home.
Teachers will be offering students access to independent learning tasks with some year groups having some zoom sessions as described below. Please note if T10 or Black rain signal is issued there is no requirement to provide online learning, in line with ESF policy.
Teachers will send out the links on the morning of the closure.
Online/Remote Learning for (T8 and Red rain only) Years 1-3: Independent Learning Tasks and Resources: Students will have access to various independent learning tasks and resources. Teacher Pre-Recorded Content: Teachers will upload pre-recorded lessons and stories for students to engage with at their own pace. Years 4-6: Google Classroom Access: Students will access independent learning tasks and resources via Google Classroom. Live Zoom Sessions (10-20 mins) Morning Session: The first session will take place in the morning to explain tasks and answer any questions students may have. Midday Session: The second session will occur midday to check in with students and provide additional support. |
In case of T8 signal is approaching during school hours
If the T8 signal is approaching, the Hong Kong Observatory will normally issue a two-hour warning period for the public. School buses will depart after an hour and the school gate will open at the same time.
The school will notify parents of the bus departure time via the ESF App and SMS. A banner will also be posted on our website.
For parents of children taking school buses, please pick them up at the stops as per their usual practice.
If parents choose to pick up their children in person, please notify the bus company and the school office.
If the above is deemed not possible, the school will inform affected parents that their children will remain in school until it is safe to release them or until a parent or designated responsible adult picks them up. Students will not be sent home on school buses once a Signal 8 or above has been hoisted.
Protocol for Reds/Black Rain announcement during school hours
Buses will be cancelled if the signal is still raised at 1.15pm. This is to allow time to contact parents and for you to make arrangements to collect your child (although we will advise parents to wait till the signals are lowered.)
If signal is lowered before 1.15pm then the School Buses will run as normal
If you choose to collect your child, when arriving at KJS, our staff will be present to direct parents to the correct shared area to collect their child.
Where possible parents should present their children's student cards to our staff while picking them up. For those who pick up other families' children, a written confirmation (email or text messages) is required.
Please remember to stay informed and follow the procedures as outlined above and to ensure a smooth and safe pick-up process during inclement weather situations.
For any questions, please contact our school office at office@kjs.edu.hk.
Kind Regards
Gavin MacGregor

Dear Year 1 Families,
I hope this message finds you well and your children are enjoying their school life at KJS. As we progress through the school year, I want to take a moment to revisit an important guideline we shared at the start of the year regarding how to handle reports or incidents involving our students.
We understand that children are naturally expressive and will often share their day-to-day interactions with you. While it is important to listen to them, it is equally important to handle any concerns about these reports through the appropriate channels. We strongly advise against contacting other families or parents directly to discuss incidents that your children report. This approach ensures that all parties receive accurate and constructive information, preventing misunderstandings and promoting a positive environment for our children.
Why Contact School Staff First?
Clarity and Accuracy: Teachers and school staff are present during school hours and are knowledgeable about the day’s events and the context in which they occur.
Handling of Situations: Our staff is adept at managing and resolving conflicts or issues effectively and respectfully. We aim to work with the students involved first and teach them the skills needed to resolve conflicts on their own.
Confidentiality and Sensitivity: Addressing concerns through the school respects the privacy and dignity of all students and families involved.
Our Commitment to You
At KJS, we are proactive in addressing issues that arise during school hours. We want to reassure you that if there is anything significant that needs to be communicated to families, we will not hesitate to reach out directly. Our goal is to ensure that all students have a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Action Steps for Parents
If your child shares something with you that is concerning:
Contact the Teacher: Reach out to your child’s teacher, who can provide you with the necessary context and information.
Follow Up: If further action is needed, the teacher will speak with the appropriate children, and families as necessary, to ensure a comprehensive response.
By adhering to these guidelines, we maintain a cohesive, respectful, and supportive community for all our families and staff. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in fostering a positive school climate.
Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the school office. We are here to support you and your child throughout their educational journey at KJS.
Warm regards,
Dawn Doucette
Dear year 4-6 students,
We are looking for students in years 4-6 who would like to take on a leadership role at KJS. The role is called "Playground Ambassador" and your responsibilities would involve monitoring certain playtimes on the ground floor, ensuring the children playing are safe, and showing respect for self, others and the environment.
If successful, you will go through some training to learn the skills needed to become a successful ambassador for our playground.
It is important to note that if successful, some of your playtime would be dedicated to being on duty rather than playing with friends.
Please take a look at the poster, and if you are interested, email Mrs. Doucette with the necessary information. The deadline is September 2nd.
Thank you,
Mrs. Doucette
Dear Parents,
You may log onto Gateway for a list of Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) available for your child to sign up. Registration will open on Monday, 26 August at 5:30pm.
Each club has a different capacity and some students might be placed on a waiting list once the club has reached its limit. Registration will be randomized and NOT on a first come first served basis. An email notification will be sent out later this week to confirm your registration.
Kind regards,
KJS Office
Dear Parents and Students,
I am writing to inform you about our upcoming Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) program.
We are excited to offer a diverse range of activities for our students, and I would like to provide you with important information regarding the structure and sign-up process for these activities.
ECA Categories
Our ECAs are divided into three main categories:
KJS Non-Sport ECAs
KJS Sport ECAs
External Provider ECAs
1. KJS Non-Sport ECAs
These activities are run free of charge by KJS staff
They will be divided across the year into four 9-week blocks.
Sign-up for the first two blocks will be released next week.
Please note that the number of students who can participate in each activity is capped due to safety considerations and staff-to-student ratios.
2. KJS Sport ECAs
Please see more detailed information here
Please note every child who wishes to participate in a sports club will have the opportunity to do so, although they may be offered a place in a different cohort later in the year.
Sport ECAs operate slightly differently from non-sport activities.
These activities are run free of charge by KJS staff
These may run for longer than 9 weeks.
3. External Provider-run ECAs
Information about external ECA providers will be advertised through our newsletter.
These activities are organized by the providers themselves.
External providers normally charge a fee for their activities.
Important Dates and Information
All KJS-run ECAs will begin on the week of September 2nd and will be available for sign-up on the Gateway platform early next week. A message will be sent confirming when booking is open
Sign-up for the first two blocks of KJS-run ECAs will be released next week.
All KJS-run ECAs for the first two blocks are for Years 3-6 only.
Some External Provider-run ECAs are open to all year groups.
After Christmas, KJS-run ECAs for Years 1 and 2 will be introduced. This delay is to allow our younger children to settle into the new school year.
Parents and caregivers are required to arrange pickups after all ECAs. If needed, please liaise with the bus companies directly.
Please note that on occasion more ECAs will be released as and when space and staffing is available.
If you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to contact the school office.
Best regards

Dear KJS parents and guardians,
Our You Tell Us Meetings are designed to provide parents with an opportunity early in the academic year to share relevant information with the teacher about their child. Academic progress will be discussed later this term at the three-way learning conference and will not be a feature of this meeting.
What will this meeting be about?
Student well-being is crucial for engagement, motivation, and effective learning. Research consistently shows that a child's diet, exercise, sleep, and technology habits significantly impact their academic success and overall health.
This year, we are seeking information about your child's current habits in these areas at home. Understanding these routines helps us identify and address behaviors in school that may be linked to challenges in these aspects of their life.
Please take time to consider the following questions prior to the meeting:

If you have any questions please get in touch with one of us directly.
Warm Regards,
KJS Senior Leadership Team
Dear Year 2 Parents,
This is to inform you that there is one reported case of Scarlet Fever in Year 2 on 22nd August 2024.
If symptoms of scarlet fever develop, consult the doctor promptly and take antibiotics according to doctor ’s advice.

Dear Parents,
We have noticed an uptick in mosquitoes after the recent heavy rainstorms. Please kindly note that the school has been taking maximum precaution and adopting additional preventive measures to ensure the health and safety of our students:
Students are advised to protect themselves from mosquito bites by taking the following measures –
We always encourage our students to embrace nature, thus the risk of getting mosquito bites cannot be entirely eliminated given the location of our school and the green campus environment we are in. Rest assured that we are doing the best we can to keep the school premises as mosquito free as possible. Your understanding would be much appreciated.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at office@kjs.edu.hk
Kind regards,
KJS Office
